Since its premier in 2002, bauma China has been expanded in close collaboration between the organizer Messe München International and leading industry associations to become the largest construction equipment trade fair in Asia. Bauma China, which will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in China November 21-24, 2006, will occupy 140,000 sqm. this year. This is 40 percent more compared to the previous event in 2004. This is split between approximately 100,000 sqm. of open-air exhibition grounds and about 40,000 sqm. of hall space.
There are already more registrations at the end of March, approximately eight months before the fair, than at the end of bauma China 2004, which had 738 exhibitors. Substantial increases have been recorded for both, Chinese and international exhibitors. Eight countries are represented with official country participations: Germany, England, Finland, France, Italy, Korea, Spain and the USA, and they also have more exhibitors than at the previous fair in 2004.
As the leading construction equipment trade fair in Asia, bauma China has the commitment of both, Chinese and international industry associations.
- From the three leading Chinese associations China Council for the Promotion of International Trade–Machinery Subcouncil (CCPIT-MSC), China National Construction Machinery Corporation (CNCMC) and China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA) as co-organizers of bauma China held by Messe München.
- From the Japan Construction Equipment Manufacturers' Association (CEMA) and Japan Construction Mechanization Association (JCMA)
- From the Korean Construction Equipment Manufactures Association (KOCEMA).
- From the European industry association Committee for the European Construction Equipment Industry (CECE)

bauma China is held in one of the most modern trade fair grounds in Asia, the Shanghai New International Expo Center, which was planned by the American architect Helmut Jahn from Chicago. As the only trade fair grounds in Asia to do so, it has special open-air exhibition grounds designed specifically for construction equipment.
