Final Report bauma China 2006

Most successful bauma China ever closes with record figures

  • More than 80,000 high quality visitors: + 60 per cent
  • More than 1,000 exhibitors from 30 countries: + 47 per cent
  • 150,000 square meters of exhibition space: + 50 per cent

The importance of bauma China was underlined by the presence of the representative of the German government Dr. Bernd Pfaffenbach, Administrative Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, who opened the trade fair on 21 November 2006 and thereby showed the significance of the leading trade fair for Construction Machinery and Building Material Machines industry in China.

bauma China 2006 confirmed its leading position as the most important platform for the construction industry in Asia. The third International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Construction Vehicles and Equipment took place from 21 to 24 November 2006 and considerably surpassed the last edition in 2004, in size and in numbers of exhibitors and visitors.

bauma China 2006 attracted more than 80,000 visitors from all over the world. Which is around 60 percent more than two years ago. “We are very satisfied with the number of visitors, especially the international visitors,” states Zhou Fugui, Vice President, SANY. “bauma China has become an outstanding platform for us to present our products and corporate image. Visitors included both distributors and end users. bauma China is the truly leading construction machinery show in the Asian market,” said Qiu Pu, Deputy General Manager, HITACHI Construction Machinery Co. Ltd.

Four halls covering 46,000 square meters and an open-air site with 104,000 square meters were fully booked. The space increased by 50 per cent compared to the last bauma China. 1,088 exhibitors presented their products and services in Shanghai, an increase of 47 per cent compared to the previous event in 2004. 732 of their number were domestic exhibitors, of which 505 were local Chinese companies and 227 were FIEs (Foreign Invested Enterprises). 356 foreign companies participated in the show. Germany, Italy and the US were the three foreign countries with the most exhibitors represented at the trade fair. Whereas in 2004, 27 countries were represented among the exhibitors at the event, this year´s trade fair featured exhibitors from 30 countries. “This result exceeded all our expectations and it shows that bauma China is the leading trade fair for the construction industry in China and Asia,” stated Eugen Egetenmeir, Deputy Managing Director of the Munich Trade Fairs International Group, the organizer of the trade show.

“The success of the trade show is boosted by China’s ongoing rapid economic development. At the same time, the long-term cooperation between the Munich Trade Fairs International Group and its Chinese partners is the foundation for the success of bauma China,” said Mr. Sun Xitian, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade-Machinery Sub-Council (CCPIT-MSC), speaking also on behalf of the two other Chinese partners of bauma China, the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA) and the China Construction Machinery Co. Ltd.(CNCMC).

bauma China featured eight national pavilions. Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, the UK and the US were again represented in joint participations, as they were at the last edition. Interesting to note is the fact that the US Pavilion had US governmental support for the first time. “We feel that US firms receive outstanding services from Munich Trade Fairs International. We consider this show to be an excellent venue for US exhibitors, and are proud to support the superb professional capabilities of Munich Trade Fairs International in organizing this show,” said Don Huber, Program Manager, United States Department of Commerce.

The four days were designed to illustrate how the latest developments, technologies and strategies in the construction industry can help the industry to enter new markets and expand existing market shares in China and Asia. The conference program in cooperation with the Construction Machinery Technology & Management magazine and the China Building Block Association informed exhibitors and visitors about the Chinese market and the development of products..

The success of bauma China is based on an outstanding trade-fair concept. The concept of the largest trade fair worldwide, bauma in Munich, has strongly supported bauma China. But also it has been customized especially to meet all the needs of the Chinese and Asian market.

The venue of bauma China was well appreciated by both exhibitors and visitors. The Shanghai New International Expo Centre is the only trade fair venue in Asia and China with a tailor-made open-air exhibition space for a construction machinery trade fair, both in terms of infrastructure as well as capacity.

bauma China’s focus is on networking, communication and business between the manufacturers and users of construction machinery and building material machines. High-ranking market partners and their counterparts converge on this event to intensify and expand their business contacts. “bauma China aims to provide a complete overview of the development of products and innovations in this industrial sector. The list of participants at bauma China reads like a Who’s Who of the industry,” said Dr. Bernd Pfaffenbach, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the trade show.

The next bauma China will be held in Shanghai in November 2008.
